Footasylum has just opened its refurbished and upsized store at the White Rose shopping centre in Leeds. It’s now 8,000 sq ft and boasts the fashion streetwear and sportswear retailer’s latest store concept with a dedicated women’s space, which has its own entrance.

The new store, which also has men’s and kidswear, has an increased product range across brands including Nike, Adidas Originals, Under Armour and The North Face, as well as stocking Columbia’s high-tech gear for the first time.

It’s also one of the first to offer Footasylum’s mobile first technology, “supporting its mission to become an omnichannel retailer”.

The store is digitally enabled featuring new pay points which can facilitate mobile payments, removing the need for customers to queue at the till and speeding up transaction time for an improved customer experience.

Nik Porter, Head of Brand Account Management at White Rose owner Landsec, commented: “Brands looking to connect meaningfully with their customers are increasingly focusing on fewer, bigger and better stores in prime locations.

“In addition to offering a more extensive product selection to guests, these new stores can greatly support an omnichannel offering – giving people even more reasons to visit time and time again.”

The new Footasylum store launch follows the opening of a flagship M&S at White Rose which has attracted customers from a wider catchment area and “driven a centre-wide rise in sales and footfall”.

At the end of February 2024, Footasylum reported a year of “record growth” with total revenues (for the year ending 27 January 2024) up by 7% to £320 million.

The company, which was acquired by AURELIUS two years ago, made headlines throughout last year with several store openings and upsizing across the UK, including a 20,000 sq ft new store on London’s Oxford Street, a 10,000 sq ft store at Lakeside shopping centre in Essex, a 6,000 sq ft store at Atria Watford and an 11,000 sq ft store at Birmingham’s Bullring.

There was also upsizes at Westfield Stratford, encompassing a new women’s section, and an upsized store – to 6,000 sq ft – at Leicester’s Fosse Park.
