For the first time, Honda HP-X concept car has made its first public appearance since 1984. It’s like Honda trying to turn back the clock to 40 years ago through this debut during Monterey Car Week, it’s one of world’s top gatherings of automotive and motorsports enthusiasts. This classic concept is styled and handcrafted by Italian design house, Pininfarina, it features radical wedge-shaped HP-X (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental) Concept which preceded the development of the first generation NSX supercar. Following this extensive restoration, Honda HP-X Concept will be featured at the 73rd Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024.
Back then, Honda HP-X Concept was the main star of the 1984 Turin Auto Show. It features futuristic elements of engineering and cutting-edge design, including that extreme wedge-shape styling that continues inspiring future generations of car designers as well as engineers. The forward-thinking of this concept car created undeniable impact on the industry, even today, Honda through its innovative vehicles have displayed serious commitment in pushing boundaries of what’s possible in automotive design.
Applying advanced aerodynamics, Honda HP-X features “ground effects” and innovative cooling solutions for its mid-mounted 2.0-liter DOHC 24-valveV6 engine. There are no doors, it has jet-fighter style removable single-piece Perspex canopy. The use of alternative materials from honeycomb panels, carbon fiber, and Kevlar helps reduce weight and improve performance. Honda concept has always a demonstration of ambitious new ideas, technologies, and engineering principles. We really hope that we can also witness HP-X on the road and not just a concept in automotive history.
