After Tesla Cybercab RoboTaxi, Elon Musk also introduced Robovan concept. Presenting autonomous future with higher standard, dubbed as Robovan, it also looks like a bus. Featuring similar art-deco design just like RoboTaxi, this concept van looks like vintage locomotives, except that it’s an autonomous vehicle that doesn’t need any driver. As a self-driving vehicle, Robovan doesn’t have any a steering wheel or pedals. Step inside the van, you’ll feel like you are in a waiting room of an office or a doctor’s office, but of course, the inviting design makes it really cozy and comfortable.
There’s not much details we can get but based on photos shared by Tesla, we can tell that Robovan is designed to transport up to 20 people, but it can be configured to transport goods as well.
Equipped with multiple row of seats, Tesla Robovan features large wall-mounted display installed at both ends of the cabin. One side of the van has a sliding door that’s partially made of glass, there are other two vanes of glass panels that run along either side of the roof.
Just like RoboTaxi, we can expect Robovan to start production in 2027. At the moment, Tesla still requires to get its regulatory approval of its unsupervised version of full self-driving software, this will decide the future of RoboTaxi and Robovan.
