With many wildfires happen around the world, it’s like a wakeup call for governments to realize that our environment has changed and reacted in such unpredictable ways. Firehawk is a concept drone designed as fire fighters’ partner, it functions as a wildfire detection and monitor. New data reveals that forest fires have become more widespread, more dangerous, burning twice as much tree today as they did 20 years ago. Natural disasters can have a tangible impact on people every year, especially forest fires and wildfires which unfortunately have increased in frequency and intensity.
Most commonly used methods to detect fire would be an aircraft-mounted cameras, they are used for direct observation, satellite imagery, and in some cases, there are several lookout towers equipped with various cameras and sensors. However, these methods can be quiet expensive and slow to implement.
Firehawk Wildfire Detection and Monitoring VTOL Drone is an alternative solution to those expensive gadgets and sensors. Thanks to advancements in sensors, battery, and electric motor technologies, it is now possible for agencies and governments around the world to implement efficient solutions fore fire detection and monitoring. Instead of using helicopters or small airplanes, drones are much more efficient and practical. These drones don’t need high qualified personnel to operate, also it won’t danger the pilots. Firehawk can operated much easier compared to those small airplanes or helicopters, this drone is much less expensive to operate.
Juan Simón Alvarez Valencia, the designer, wants to design a reliable alternative in emergency response situations. Firehawk moves to a vertical position when both taking off and landing, eliminating the need for catapults or wide-open areas. Firehawk is capable to reach sufficient altitude, its motors flip horizontally to fly in its more energy-efficient fixed-wing configuration. The gimbal camera module is highly functional to monitor the fire, or that flying cell tower module for communications in challenging remote locations. Firehawk is controlled remotely from a base station, allowing these drones to communicate with the field teams for quick and effective actions.
